Sustainability Role in overall company's strategic plansSustainability has been at the core of EMU Australia since the very beginning. For over 25 years, our focus has always been on using the very best, natural and sustainable materials that Mother Nature provides us with, to create high-quality footwear that lasts. Unlike man-made fibres, the Ever-Natural materials we use, like Australian Merino wool, premium leather and Australian sheepskin, are world-renowned for their super-natural qualities, including next-to-skin softness, as well as being renewable, biodegradable and 100% natural.Sustainability initiativesIn our essence, we believe in working with natural materials and not creating or consuming quickly. We strive for sustainable consumption patterns by producing enduring and weatherproof footwear that can be worn year after year. We believe that creating quality products that last, means that we allow people to make a more sustainable purchases when they invest in their footwear rather than cycling through fast fashion.Pledges for the yearThis persistent mission to produce sustainable footwear saw us proudly win The Best Sustainable Footwear Brand at the Marie Claire Sustainability Awards 2022.Sustainable ProductsPlatinum CollectionOriginals CollectionNest CollectionAccessories CollectionAT THE FAIRNEW TO THE FAIRCertified sustainable products by third partyCERTIFIEDCertified byThe Woolmark CompanyPackagingOur packaging is made with recycled contentMaterialsWe have products made from sustainability sourced raw materialsAustralian Merino wool, in particular, is a very important material used across our collection. Sustainability Role in overall company's strategic plansJ.J. Textile recognises that it has a responsibility to the environment beyond legal and regulatory requirements. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually improving our environmental performance, as an integral part of our business strategy and operating methods. We aim to inspire our customers, suppliers and other stakeholders to do the same.Sustainability initiativesWe endeavour to comply with relevant legal and regulatory requirements; continually improve and monitor environmental performance as well as promote sustainable sourcing; continually improve and reduce environmental impacts (for example, minimise packaging and, where possible, use recyclable or biodegradable materials only); use only natural textiles including wool, cotton and linen in our product range.Pledges for the yearWe are working towards zero waste and are encouraging the re-use of loose fibre during the carding, spinning and weaving processes. If any fabric is left over for one garment, we aim to re-use for another. We also wish to replace plastic packaging with a more sustainable and biodegradable material and hope to do so in the near future.Sustainable ProductsRecycled Cotton BlanketsWool ThrowsAvailable in several elegant colours from rich vibrant tones to earthy neutrals; there’s something for every interior. They work together beautifully, whether you choose to style them in matching pairs or as a mixture of different designs and colours. A concealed zip and a decorative blanket stitch round the edge adds the final touches to the carefully thought-out design.AT THE FAIRNEW TO THE FAIRSocial equity at your companyWe are collaborating with manufacturers and supply chain partners who share their vision with us to make the entire production process sustainable and environmentally friendly. We ensure our products are produced in an ethical, safe and eco-conscious way.PackagingOur packaging is compostableWe are in the process of making our packaging plastic freeOtherOur packaging is either recyclable or compostable. Our cardboard boxes can be either composted or recycled and the bags, which protect our items from moisture, are also recyclable. We are in the process of designing product bags that will protect against moisture but will be plastic free.MaterialsWe have products made from recycled materialsOur products are plastic freeWe have products made from sustainability sourced raw materialsOur Recycled Cotton Blankets are made in the UK from cotton which has been recycled. These blankets are a sustainable staple for use all year round, especially in spring and summer. All our products are made from natural fibres, with the majority using either pure wool or wool blended with a small amount of cotton. Wool is a fully natural product, entirely renewable, sustainable and is fully biodegradable – some very important features in a world that is increasingly concerned about the environment. Each year sheep produce a fleece which needs to be removed for their own health, this makes wool one of the most natural and renewable resources available today. Sheep and wool are part of the natural cycle, being derived from living matter which has absorbed carbon through its life means that 50% of the weight of clean wool is pure biogenic carbon gathered from the environment! Microplastic pollution is one of the biggest and most urgent issues facing the global textile industry. The loss of fibres from synthetic textiles, and the persistence of these microplastic fibres in aquatic ecosystems, is an area of major concern. Wool is completely natural and is plastic free, meaning that it does not contribute to the plastic problem the world is facing. Wool is well-known to be strong and resilient and our products are designed to be very long lasting but when they do finally come to the end of their lifespan, they can be recycled. Old wool fabric and fibre can be recycled for many uses including insulation and geotextiles.Ethical ConsiderationsFair wages are paid to the people who make our productsOur products are made by people employed in good working conditionsWe have mapped our entire supply chainWe challenge our suppliers to report any ethical issues they identifyWithin the workplace where our products are made there is commitment to Non-Discrimination Gender Equality and Freedom of AssociationWe have a longstanding relationship with trusted manufacturers and supply chain partners who share our vision to make the entire production process ethical, sustainable and environmentally friendly. Sustainability Role in overall company's strategic plansCentral to QuayStones ethos is to step as lightly on the planet as possible and to bring awareness of environmental issues such as sea pollution, coastal erosion and species decline through our designs.Sustainability initiativesFrom the start we have used reclaimed metals to make our jewellery and ensure all our products are hallmarked for quality. We use found and reused objects in our designs and in the point of sale supplied to new customers. Our packaging has been chosen for its eco-friendly credentials and we reuse and recycle as much as we can.Pledges for the yearWe would like to reduce our carbon foot print further and will be looking at ways to save energy and time in production and supply. To this end we have invested in smelting equipment to reuse in house all the scrap metal generated in production.Sustainable ProductsStrata jewellery collectionThe Strata jewellery collection, cast from reclaimed silver, was designed to highlight coastal erosion as the pieces were based on the vanishing rock formations that can be found along the Northumbrian coast.Recycled silver jewelleryQuayStones currently buys all it’s silver from suppliers that use reclaimed metal and from 2024 we will be smelting our own scrap silver to reuse in sheet and cast form.
