Q&A: Finale

14-Nov-2017

Footwear retailer Lynn Clark is already seeing a strong sell-through on her Moda brands this a/w 17. Here the owner of Finale Shoes & Accessories in Corbridge, Northumberland, reveals what’s on her buying list when she returns to Moda Footwear this February.

Q: Which collections are already selling for autumn / winter 2017?
A: We have had a good season so far with a variety of brands. The autumn / winter season felt it started early with a great reaction to the chunky soles on shoes from Paul Green, Remonte and some of our own branded Italian collections. This has been closely followed by ankle boots, which seem to continue to be a key look this season and are not as weather dependent as some other boot styles. We have already sold out of some of the most popular style ankle boots from Caprice, Paul Green, Alpe and Remonte

Q: Which brands and styles do you think will be your Christmas bestsellers?
A: This will be very weather-dependent I think. Smart shoes from Peter Kaiser are sure to continue to be popular for more formal occasions over the festive period. Those that like something extra special will choose something from our Italian ranges from Le Babe or our own brand designs. Waterproof and/or weatherproof boots could be top sellers if the weather takes a turn for the worse, but could equally be slow sellers if it stays mild.

Q: How do you feel about the Christmas period?
A: Christmas is always a busy time in retail and this year is sure to be no exception. time with family is limited, but I work alongside my daughter and we enjoy what we do and have some lovely customers, so it doesn’t feel like we miss out at all. I should imagine every independent is worried about the impact of high street discounting and the crazy black Friday offers, but we must just keep concentrating on our great varied offerings and the extra special customer service independents can offer, and hope customers continue to support us.

Q: Are you doing anything creative to boost seasonal sales?
A: We always join in with all our village activities in Corbridge at Christmas, and have an active trader’s association which ensures the village is extra special at this time of year. We offer a late-night shopping evening with carol singers and an outdoor food market, and we have lights up on every shop and around the village which will be switched on from the end of November. The church has a Christmas tree festival which we participate in, and we are collecting a ‘reverse advent calendar’ for our local food bank too. This is all in-keeping with the festive spirit and encourages shoppers to choose to shop in different places other than high street super stores for their Christmas gifts.

Q: What are you looking to buy into for a/w 18 when you visit Moda this February?
A: We are happy with all our collections for this autumn, and will be revisiting all the brands we purchased this season to view their collections. Some of these include Caprice, Paul Green, Peter Kaiser, Remonte, Hogl, Lisa Kay, Lunar and Gerry Weber. We always look at new brands while at Moda Footwear in addition to these to ensure that we have the best collections for our customers every season.

Join Lynn Clark at Moda Footwear this season on 18-20 February to see the best that autumn / winter 2018 has to offer.
