Moda Footwear’s August edition has been bolstered by an unprecedented number of early signings. The exhibition – which returns to the NEC on 6-8 August this year – has already confirmed a substantial number of brands, most of whom are making an early commitment on the back of a strong show last month.
Amongst those already confirmed to show in August are Alpe, Chatham, Josef Seibel, Mustang, Padders, Lisa Kay, Marco Tozzi, Joe Browns, Ruby Shoo, Laura Vita, Ikon, Lunar, Waldlaufer, Art, Gucinari, Nicola Sexton, Bamboo A, Mephisto, Bugatti, Irregular Choice, Legero, Caprice, Dude Shoes and Xti.
“Moda Footwear in February was our best show since we started exhibiting nearly six years ago,” says David Rudd, UK sales manager for Mustang Shoes. “We not only saw all of our regular customers, but also had a huge amount of new customers visiting our stand. Moda has always been our main fair in the UK, and we committed straight away to the next edition because it gives stability and credibility to our brand, showing that we are here for the long term.”
Fellow exhibitor Josef Seibel also experienced a particularly strong edition of the show in February, prompting those at the helm of the brand to make an early return to the August show.
“We’ve been showing at Moda Footwear for years but the most recent edition was one of our best-ever to date,” says Martin Ingram, UK managing director for Josef Seibel. “We saw over 90 buyers on the first day alone and didn’t stop writing orders the whole time we were there.”
For other exhibitors, the quantity of visitors was matched by the calibre of buyers in attendance, some of whom represented a new demographic for established labels.
“For one of the first times at Moda, we opened several new accounts from across Europe,” reveals Philip Marsh, managing director for Chatham. “We will be back in August because the spring/summer collection is what we are well known for, and it’s a collection that we need to showcase at Moda Footwear.”
With all attention firmly on s/s 18 launches, those at the heart of the industry are calling upon retailers to take a fresh look at footwear at the trade's national show.
"Moda Footwear is the most important trade footwear event in the UK, and has been for the past 20 years," says Graeme Jenkins, sales & marketing director at Padders. "The industry needs a focal point to thrive, and how can we do that if we don't meet twice a year to meet, shake hands and interact as an industry? We have 900 accounts across the UK, and we would like to see them all at Moda Footwear where they can meet not only their key account manager, but the designer, MD and every other element of the story behind the brand."
