Moda’s seminar programme is a highlight of the show, helping visitors to get ahead in business with the help of experts in their field. Over the next two weeks, Moda will introduce each speaker as part of its Meet the Speakers series, allowing buyers to prepare for the exhibition above and beyond the business of buying. Today, we go behind the seams with Tom Cridland.
Three years ago, Tom Cridland was a would-be entrepreneur with big aspirations. Tired of the throwaway approach to fast fashion, he had a vision for a fashion brand built on longevity, and the sort of quality that would prove to be the antithesis to the seemingly disposable designs of today.
When the Prince’s Trust recognised his potential, a £6k start-up loan changed everything. Along with girlfriend and business partner Debs Marx, Tom Cridland proceed to turn his loan into a £2m global fashion brand, based on the idea that fashion this good should be built to last.
Buyers can discover the Tom Cridland range when it debuts at Moda Gent this season, revealing a range of timeless men’s styles that are backed by the brand’s unique 30 year guarantee. Above and beyond the product however, buyers can gain a fascinating insight into Cridland’s journey to the top when he takes to the stage to reveal the secrets to making a fashion brands work with little to no budget.
Tom Cridland arrives at Moda fresh from his tour of the US, where he drove a hire car across the country to spread the word about his sustainable concept. People certainly listened – television interviews ensued across the US, and 50 per cent of his sales are now generated from the USA.
