Moda buyer Smita Lymbery takes time out of a busy winter season to share what’s selling well this a/w 17 at her independent womenswear boutique Walk In Style in Saltaire, West Yorkshire.
Q: What are your bestsellers this autumn / winter 2017?
A: Latte is selling well – it’s a British company which designs and produces clothing in Italy at an affordable price. Marie Mero is also popular for great-fitting dresses from day to nightwear, while Oui is a good all-round bestseller for daywear from jeans to knits.
Q: Looking ahead to Christmas, what are going to be the star performers?
A: Frank Lyman have some wonderfully-designed dresses and jumpsuits which will be a winner this Christmas. I am also expecting dresses by Michaela Louisa to be in demand over the festive period.
Q: As a retailer, how do you feel about Christmas?
Very positive. The only downside is the high street going into sale too early – whatever happened to the supposed “January” sales?
Q: How are you boosting seasonal sales this year?
A: We are having a two-day fashion event on 16 and 17 November in conjunction with other local visitors. There will be models present, along with refreshments for customers.
Q: How will your experiences this season affect your buying when you attend Moda this February?
A: I’ll be buying into more day dresses, casual jumpers and shirts at this season’s show.
