Moda buyer Mark Esslemont takes time out of a busy winter season to share what’s selling well this a/w 17 at independent menswear store Esslemonts in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Q: What’s selling well this autumn season?
A: Our bestselling labels at the moment include Remus Uomo, Douglas, Brax, Camel Active, Fynch Hatton and Tresanti.
Q: What are tipped to be your bestsellers for the Christmas period?
A: The double-sided scarves by Tresanti, Fynch Hatton knitwear and shirts by Remus Uomo.
Q: How do you feel about the festive season?
A: I think it will be tough going again, even now that the Black Friday discounts have settled down as we will no doubt see the multiples going into full sale by mid-December. This puts pressure on independents, but we will stand firm and our sale will start on the 27 December.
Q: How are you boosting sales this season?
A: We recently celebrated 20 years in business and had a party for loyal customers at a nearby restaurant. Hopefully that generated some goodwill in the run up to Christmas.
Q: What are you looking to buy at Moda this season?
A: I will look at all my current suppliers’ ranges and see what is new. Moda is also my chance to discover new brands that may complement my existing offer.
